I really like the Turkish poet Nazim Hikmet, my favourite is probably Things I Didn't Know I Loved. It's pretty long and I can't work out how to copy and paste so here's a link: http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/15930
This is a beautiful poem, Odette. I hadn't come across this poet's work before. I think I'm going to have to seek out some more of it. The language, imagery and techniques used come across (to me, at least) like a kind of mix of T.S. Eliot, Robert Frost and Lawrence Durrell. He has his own style, though, and I like it. His use of repetition is effective and soothing, much like the regular beat of the train on a track. This works well in the (apparent) absence of a regular rhyming scheme.
